Uncertainty

Lately, our theatre department has been going through some serious uncertainty lately. It all started last semester when Shorter released their faith statement. It gained a lot of controversy, and it hit national news. And because of this statement, our fine arts department has taken a huge hit.

In the past week, we've lost over half of the voice and theatre faculty, and over half of the students are leaving. I can count on two hands the students in the theatre department that are definitely staying and are in my year. Six. About half of what our junior class is this year.

No one knows what is going to happen next year. We don't know what the new faculty is going to be like. We don't know what students are coming in next year.

I had a moment where I seriously contemplated leaving Shorter and auditioning at Reindhart. I mean, it seemed fitting. No one knew what was going to happen here. I could probably still graduate next year. My current voice teacher and the head of the theatre department have signed a contract to teach there next year. A bunch of my friends were transferring there. So as far as I was concerned, all signs were pointing towards Reindhart.

Before I jump into any big decisions, I try and pray about it first. See if God is leading me in that direction before I jump into anything and end up making a big mistake.

I was reminded of how much I've learned here. How many wonderful people I've met that are staying at Shorter; one of them being one of my closest friends ever. I was reminded of how much I love this place, and how it was the only school that I applied to when it was time for me to transfer. I wanted to go here so badly. I still want to stay here.

The fact is, there is still more for me to learn here at Shorter. God has some amazing things planned for next year, and He wants me to be a part of it. There's light here, even though it's tough to find.

I just need to focus on enjoying my time in the theatre department while they're still here. And there are things for me to look forward to next year. Getting my braces off being one of them. If we get an entirely new faculty, no one except for the people who are staying are going to know that I had those metal torture devices on my teeth (if you think I'm exaggerating, remember the last time you got your braces adjusted, and then tell me I'm exaggerating.) Don't ask me why that's something to look forward to. It just is.

Also, I talked to Kristina, who is practically my sister, and it looks like we're doing our senior show together. Granted, we may have to triple up, but it's worth it. Guys, you don't know how incredibly excited I am about this unless you know how much I value this girl. She was there for me during the darkest time in my life last year when my dad was in the hospital. Her and Mariel (my other 'sister') let me crash on their futon numerous times last semester when I didn't feel safe in my own dorm room. She's staying at Shorter for another year, and even though we may go our separate ways after we graduate (we're still going to keep in touch, though, I'm sure), I'm going to enjoy one more year with her.

Basically, God gave me Kristina as a reason to stay here, and you know what? It's good enough for me! May not be enough for you, but you'd have to understand how incredibly blessed I am to call her my best friend.

I don't know how I started with the uncertainty of the theatre department to telling you how awesome my best friend is. I'm not ashamed, though. :)

Well, hi there!

I created this blog for the purpose of keeping my family up to date with what's going on in my life. My sweet Aunt Debbie gave me this idea while in Arlington, TX for spring break on a mission trip, and I didn't get a chance to create one until now. So here I am!

This is just a boring, starter, hi-i'm-on-blogger-now, welcome post. Nothing interesting. But there will be more things being posted on here!

Oh, I bought a fancy new SLR camera. It's a Canon Digital Rebel XT (with everything else included that you would ever need), and I got it used on eBay. I have to say, I'm pretty excited to get it in the mail! So expect a lot of pictures as well.

Have a blessed day!
